Shaykh Uthaymeen said:
"If a person says Astaghfirullah with a truly sincere intention to achieve forgiveness...Allah the all mighty forgives that person. Allah loves for a person to do so:
" Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."[2:222]
Allah almighty loves that his servant repent to him and seek his forgiveness, so he ordered us to ask forgiveness from him in a number of verses. Istaghfar or seeking forgiveness means to seek Al Maghfirah and Al Maghfirah means covering a sin and overlooking it. Its derived from the word Al Mighfar, which covers a person's head during battle and protects him from Arrows. So the root word combines the meanings of covering and protection..."

Reciting Astaghfirullah is very useful, we should try to recite it as much as we can, even when you communicate with other people.Thauban (Radi Allah Anhu) reported:Whenever the Messenger of Allah(SAW) concluded his prayer,he would beg forgiveness from Allah thrice and then would recite:"Allahumma Antas-Salamu, wa minkas-salamu, tabarakta ya Dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram"
